Weekly Update 05/05/2017

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

6153 Emory – On May 2nd Governor Deal signed the two bills introduced by Representative Dave Belton that de-annexed 6153 Emory (the green house) from the City of Covington and annexed it into Oxford. We’ve attached a copy of each bill. Thanks to David Strickland and the Covington city attorney for the legal descriptions.

Cub Scouts – Lt. Jeff Novak visited the Cub Scout Den at Allen Memorial Tuesday night. He was there to talk about bike safety, but after the talk the boys got to see what the back seat of a patrol car looked like.

Lions Club Lunch – Just after the Lions Club lunch on Thursday where we talked about all the different services provided by the City, our crews were presented with this tree that had to be removed from blocking E. Soule. We have a few pictures from the Lions Club Lunch courtesy of Chief Dave Harvey.

Police Department – We have hired Officer Ernesto Borrero to fill the slot opened up when Lt. Pilgrim resigned. Officer Borrero has worked in law enforcement for almost 17 years and was with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office from 2008 to 2017. His first day with the Oxford Police Department will be Monday, May 15th. (PS. He goes by Ernie.)
