Weekly Update 08/04/2014

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

Emory Asbury Water Line Project – We are getting very close to completing this project. On Monday, July 28, we conducted an inspection of the entire project and generated a two page “Punch List & Project Close-out” check list. Here are our inspectors as they are almost finished on Asbury. From left to right we have: Scottie Croy, Jason Anderson (Anderson Grading and Pipeline), Jody Reid, and Pete Taylor (Carter and Sloope, engineers). Anderson Grading and Pipeline will work the punch list and we should finish the project soon.

Georgia Recreational Trails Program – The Georgia Department of Natural Resources administers a federal grant program for recreational trails. Each year they award about $1.5 million in grants. They conduct pre-application workshops each year. This year the workshops are in Roswell on August 19 and in Perry on August 21. I plan to attend one of these and would sure like a councilmember to join me so you get the information first hand. Let me know if you are interested.

Fleming Hall OPEN HOUSE – We are invited to the open house for the new dorm at Oxford College on Tuesday, August 5th between 11 and 2.

Gazebo Repairs – Lauran and Jody worked with Gerald Whitley, general contractor, to repair the gazebo in the cemetery and the gazebo in George Street Park. Both were very weathered and missing part of their roof and some of the wood. All the necessary repairs were made and they were stained (painted). This should last a while. We also added two small benches inside both gazebos. The cost was $2,525 and will be charged to the repairs and maintenance line item in the General Government portion of the budget.
