Weekly Update 09/16/2016

Police Department - Our new officer, Michelle McClung, has completed her two week notice with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and will be sworn in as a police officer with the City of Oxford on Monday, September 19th. Officer McClung has been in law enforcement for 17 years, working for the Oconee County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Monroe Police Department, and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Department. Officer McClung loves working with people and sees her job as a way to help people. Her husband currently works for the City of Monroe Police Department and is the training officer there.

Officer McClung will ride with Lt. Pilgrim, Officer Novak, and Chief Harvey in order to familiarize her with the area and operation systems in Oxford and Newton County. Officer McClung is very excited to be a part of the City of Oxford Police Department and plans to stay with us for several years.

Cousins Middle School – Cousins Middle School held a September 11th – Patriot Day program on Friday, September 9th. If you were there and looked real close you might have noticed that the flags on stage were the City of Oxford’s July 4th flags.

Honorary Councilmember – Councilmember Davis has appointed James Waddey of W. Clark Street as the honorary councilmember for October. His tour and lunch was Monday, September 12th. Lt. Pilgrim conducted the Police Department part of the tour.

Fuses – Work is continuing on the underground project for Oxford College. Here are some of the four foot fuses before being installed.
