Weekly Update 4/19/2013

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

→ Municipal Storm Sewer System - We have to prepare an annual report covering our storm sewer

system. We've attached the approval (C22413041410160) from the state for the 2011 report. It

took a while, but it's been approved. The state is now reviewing our 2012 report which we submitted

   a couple of months ago.

→ Town-Gown Committee - Mayor Roseberry and Dean Bowen will convene the Town-Gown committee

   next Wednesday (April 24).

→ Sanitary Survey - Every five years or so, the state Environmental Protection Division inspects our

water department. Jody, with records help from Lauran, spent almost all day Tuesday with the inspector.

We think we did well, but we will wait for the written report to be sure. The state inspector reviewed our

record keeping and looked at our water distribution system. He asked Jody to take him to see all of the

interconnection points with the Newton County system. It was a very thorough inspection.

→ I-20 Pedestrian Bridge - Covington has selected the Atkins engineering firm to design the pedestrian

bridge over I-20. The Oxford portion of the project includes a sidewalk along the western side of Emory

Street. There was some delay in selecting the consultant and so we will have a new timeline for the

project soon. The design engineer thinks construction can still be completed by August, 2015, but that

time for the environmental review and design will need to be accelerated. We will let you know when we

   get a new schedule.
