Weekly Update 12/14/2012

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

Employee LunchRemember we have the employee lunch and briefing set for noon on Monday.
-
See you there. AND, we’ll see each other at the work session Monday night at 6 PM.

Arbor Day – Arbor Day is coming.  It will be Friday, February 15, 2013.
-
    More to come later.

Squirrel Hunt – And while we are on the subject of nature.  We are not

actually going on a squirrel hunt at city hall, but we’ve been tempted.

Squirrels found their way into the ceiling above the judge’s office.

They seem to be coming in using the heating and air conditioning duct that

brings all the pipes and wires from the heating and air conditioning units

behind the building up to the second floor equipment room.  We are working

with our heating and air conditioner repair service to block the squirrels

from coming inside.  As of Friday, we had ACS Repair here to fix the damage

and Scottie and Troy have to wired off the entrance to the “squirrel tunnel”

and set a couple of traps in the ceiling for any malingering squirrel.

     Problem solved!  (I hope.)

Emory Street Trees – Jody and our crew have finished trimming the fur trees

on Emory Street that are on Mrs. Eizen’s property but overhang and block the

sidewalk.  He worked closely with Connie Head and the homeowner and everyone

is satisfied with the results. Please see the picture at the bottom of this email.

The Movie Business – Here’s an item from the Georgia Trend magazine December issue:

“Georgia’s burgeoning film industry shows no signs of slowing down.  In the 2012

fiscal year, 333 films, TV shows, commercials, and music videos were shot across

the state, according to the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office.

Production companies have spent $880 million in Georgia to produce these projects,

up by $200 million over last year, and the industry has a $3.1 billion economic impact

     on the state.”

Charter Cable – One of the Electric City of Georgia services is a pole attachment

service.  It ensures we have an up to date record of which utility is using our

utility poles and for what.  They also make sure we receive accurate payments for

this.  We recently received a check for $3,576 from Charter Cable for the 2011 inventory

and audit of the poles they are using in our system.

Public Works - The crews: Changed out a pole on the corner of Emory St. and Hamill

    St.; Changed out pole at 1212 Asbury St.;  Trimmed Leland cypress on Emory St.;

Built a cage over the duct work at city hall to prevent squirrel access;  Made major

repairs to giant Leaf vacuum; and performed daily work orders for day to day operations.
