Weekly Update 04/04/2014

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

175th Birthday - Lisa Dorward volunteered to take on the task of publicity for the 175th birthday committee. Her first article appeared in last Sunday's Covington News. Click here to see it on their website.

Oxford College New Science Building - Oxford College has posted some preliminary information about its new science building on its web site. Follow this link. The development application for this $29.9 million project will be submitted to the Planning Commission soon. Below is a rendering.

Home Energy Audits - We have registered Jody Reid to attend the next training for home energy audit audits that is being offered by the Electric Cities of Georgia. It will be offered late in April. Until Jody returns from training, we will continue to make a list in the city clerk's office of customers who have requested or who we think would benefit from a home energy audit.
Emory – Asbury Water Project - We held our construction progress meeting on Wednesday, April 2. We have spent 42.3% of the funds; 59.9% of the pipe has been laid; and 38.6% of the contract time has passed. The project is proceeding very well. We have 3,500 feet of water main left to install on Emory. The contractor estimates that he will install 2,200 feet during April. So, we are not quite at the end of the project but we are at the beginning of the end. Final cleanup and landscaping will be done at the end of the project.
