Weekly Update 04/07/2017

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

Annexation – Representative Dave Belton has let us know that the two bills to de-annex 6153 Emory Street (the green house) from Covington and to annex it to Oxford both passed the House and the Senate. We are now waiting on Governor Deal’s signature before they become law.

High Winds – We were lucky with the high winds on Monday and Wednesday. Mansfield was not so lucky and had a tornado. We’ve helped them with our chipper truck as much as we could. In Oxford, we had only minor damage with one power outage on West Soule Street on Wednesday. We restored the service in the rain, but that’s the way linemen work when they have to..

Tree Trimming – Burford continues, even with the bad weather, to trim trees on the electric power right-of-way. We schedule trimming about one-fourth of the right-of-way every year.

Oxford College - Ricardo Horne, Assistant Director of Community Engagement at Oxford College wanted us to know that: On Friday, April 14th from 4 – 6 PM on the Quad, students at Oxford College have organized an event, Community Expo, for children of the surrounding community to come on campus for a fun-filled afternoon. Our goal is to increase the connection and strengthen the partnership of the college and Oxford/Covington. This event is geared elementary aged children. There will be lots of activities hosted by different student organizations on campus!

The flyer is attached and the registration link is here.
