Weekly Update 07/29/2016

From Bob Schwartz, City Manager

Safest City in Georgia – The website NICHE recently labeled Oxford as the safest place to live in Georgia.

Active Shooter Drill – On Thursday, July 28th, the Covington Police Department conducted an active shooter drill at Peachtree Academy on Highway 278. They involved eight other agencies including the Oxford Police Department, Porterdale, the Covington Fire Department, EMS, the Covington ESU, and E911. About 30 teachers and students participated by playing fully made up victims. Some of the wounds were very realistic. I went along as an observer. It’s a terrible thing to have to train for, but it’s good to know that the agencies involved are working to be prepared. You might recognize a couple of the officers going up the stairs.

104 West Watson Street – Here are some pictures of the lot that is part of the Asbury Street Park. The house came down Wednesday.
